Lycée Molière : Enjoy education

Homework School

The Homework School is open to all secondary school students.

It provides students with support in completing their homework assignments, as well as specific and personalized help to tackle any difficulties that may arise.

Teachers at the Homework School are qualified coaches with specific fields of expertise (mathematics, modern and ancient languages, literary subjects). They provide daily supervision of students completing school assignments and learning lessons. They also help pupils to develop an effective work method, draw up a study plan, manage their time and increase their autonomy.

Established in 1956 by Paul Dechamps in the avenue Molière, the Ecole des devoirs (Homework School) was the first institute in Brussels to specialize in homework assistance. Dechamps’ successful homework school model encouraged the creation of various similarly named Ecoles des devoirs throughout the French Community.

With over 60 years of experience, our Homework School offers unparalleled expertise in homework support in Brussels.

The Homework School’s unmitigated success led to the creation of the Lycée Molière in 1964, providing non-subsidized general secondary school education  approved by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.

Our Method

Individual support

When the subject matter taught in class has not been understood, the Homework School teachers take the time to explain it to each student individually. Most teachers at the Homework School also teach at the Lycée Molière during the day: each has a specific field of expertise, allowing the team to meet all the students’ needs.

Organization

Students prepare a study schedule on a daily basis and learn how to manage their time in order to ensure they have completed their assignments by the time they go home. During exam periods, they draw up a schedule mapping out the entire session and learn to identify their priorities. They are thus gradually taught to develop autonomous learning.

Work method

Success is a learnable skill! To this end, teachers at the Homework School help students develop specific tools to facilitate their study: summaries, syntheses, mind maps, memorization techniques. These tools help them make sense of their study and set up an effective work method which will be a lifelong asset.

Congeniality & Accountability

The Homework School also has broader goals: it sets out to foster trust, mutual respect and dialogue between students and their teachers, thereby reinstating an enthusiastic, curious and responsible attitude to learning.
